OpenAI forms deployment company with $4 billion backing

OpenAI announced the formation of OpenAI Deployment Company, a majority-owned consulting subsidiary backed by more than $4 billion in initial investment and tasked with embedding engineers inside enterprise customers to design, test, and deploy production AI systems. The new subsidiary is partnered with 19 investment and consulting firms, including TPG, Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield, giving it a built-in client pipeline across hundreds of portfolio companies. The structure is a direct response to Anthropic's earlier formation, announced on May 4, of a $1.5 billion joint venture with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, and other Wall Street firms targeting the same private equity-backed mid-market segment. Both ventures explicitly mirror the forward-deployed engineer model pioneered by Palantir, in which the AI vendor sends technical staff to client sites rather than relying on third-party systems integrators.
